Coach Luwandre Visagie

I am an energetic 29-year old young man who has ample passion and patience. I was born in Ceres where I also grew up. The rugby bug bit me at a very young age. I am besotted with rugby and believe it can change one’s life for the better.

As a young boy it was my dream to become a Springbok. I have tried everything in my power to reach that dream of mine, but injuries stopped me in my tracks. I was privileged to play for Boland Grant Khomo u/16 and Craven Week u/18. I studied at the University of Stellenbosch where I obtained my teaching degree. During my four years of studying at Stellenbosch University, I was in the fortunate position to play rugby for Maties as well as for my hostel, ‘Eendrag.’ After university, I played club rugby for Ceres and Moorreesburg. Unfortunately, injuries caused me to stop dreaming about becoming a Springbok.

After a few years I made peace with the fact that I would not be able to play for the Springboks. I realized that I had to make a difference in the lives of young boys. I just knew that I had to do something to prepare and to lay the foundation for the boys in order for them to get the best coaching. I reflected on my own career as well as on other players who could not reach their goal to become a Springbok. I have considered all internal as well as external factors.

I realized I had to do something to assist the boys. The schools where I had done my practical teaching as a student and my life journey up to now, have made it possible for me to work with learners from different cultures, socio-economic issues, personalities, interests, injuries, challenges, ways of thinking, etc. I have decided to establish my own rugby academy, called CHAMPS RUGBY.

CHAMPS RUGBY has been established to give the boys the opportunity to become a good ‘man’. Each boy has a certain given talent. At CHAMPS RUGBY these talents are identified and developed. Each boy is important to me and all the boys who are part of the academy are like brothers in one big family. The platform makes it possible for the boys to make new friends. Friendship to any boy is very important. We believe in your son.
